FAQ

How do i donate furniture?

1. Go to our Donate page here!

2. Read our donation criteria to determine if your items would be eligible for a donation.

3. We prefer that you drop your items off at our warehouse; if you need to, you can request a pickup by filling out the "Pickup Request Form" here.

4. Wait to receive a processing email, then send back photos of the items.

5. If the items will work for our clients, we will try to schedule an appointment for a pickup.


How do i get furniture?

We only give furniture to people who have been referred to us through our partnered nonprofit social service agencies. Some of these organizations are listed on our partners tab. If you receive services from one of these agencies or another you think may be eligible, contact your case worker about scheduling an appointment.


What items can i donate?

DONATION CRITERIA

  • Upholstered items should not be broken, and lack rips, stains, or excessive fading

  • Wood items should not have excessive watermarks or discoloration, chipped edges, missing hardware or parts, etc.

  • Items should be clean and free of odor

  • Items should be pest free (i.e. no bed bugs)

  • Appliances should be clean and in working condition

ITEMS WE CAN ACCEPT

  • Mattresses (twin, full, queen)

  • Bed frames (metal, quick and easy to disassemble)

  • Box springs

  • Cribs

  • Sofas / couches / loveseats

  • Armchairs

  • Chairs

  • Dressers

  • Tables: kitchen tables, end tables, bedside tables, etc.

  • Mirrors, artwork

  • Household items: microwaves, toasters, dishes, utensils, glassware, pots & pans

ITEMS WE CANNOT ACCEPT

  • Large sectional couches

  • Wooden bed frames

  • Sleeper sofas

  • King-sized mattresses

  • Bookshelves

  • China cabinets / armoires / buffets

  • Entertainment centers

  • Outdoor furniture

  • Electronics

  • Linens


How does dropping off furniture work?

We always have at least one person at our warehouse who can collect donations Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm. Please ensure that your items are eligible for donation according to our criteria and give us a call when you are on the way (312-752-0211) so we can plan to meet you downstairs.

Do you pickup in the suburbs?

We generally operate in a 25-mile radius from our warehouse on the corner of Roosevelt and Cicero Ave. This includes all locations in the City of Chicago, and some suburbs. Pickups that are further away from our warehouse need to include a large number of items so that we can fill our truck.

How much advanced notice do I need to give for a pickup request?

The earlier you let us know about your pickup request the better. We get dozens of requests a day and usually have our schedule booked one week in advance. The more flexible you are, the easier it is for us to pickup your donation.

I sent a pickup request form but haven't heard back yet...

Please send us a reminder email to donate@chicagofurniturebank.org with pictures of the items attached and available times. Unfortunately, we will not be able to pickup all donation requests due to our limited truck capacity.
