Lamar R. (He/Him)

Center of housing and health (CHH)

After suffering a nearly fatal bullet wound, Lamar went through 16-weeks of physical therapy in order to reach recovery. Following his sessions, he came out with a new outlook on life and a focus on wanting to do right by himself and his four children. Lamar has since partnered with Center of Housing and Health to get himself a new home, an education, and more.

I was a victim of a crime. I got shot in the face while going to the store. I’m not gang related or anything either. I was going through sessions of physical therapy. I got 16 week sessions. Then, I was referred to [CHH] where I met Sarah and she thought I was a qualified candidate to receive services. I lost a lot during that time, but now I’m so thankful. I’m 41 now. I want to be doing the right thing. I’m in Kennedy-King College doing general studies, I want to become an entrepreneur, [but] my main concern is getting my children to stay in a safe environment.

“Sorry if I’m taking a while. I’m not used to getting nothing so that’s why I’m like this. This is a blessing. I appreciate you all, too. I can’t even express it, thank you.”

“What I like [about CFB] is that it's client choice. I like the variety you offer. [Clients] being able to pick out [their] own things. The sense of being able to have your place. This is all you - your house, your place, your control. You can set your own future.”
