Featherfist - Youth Program

Malik is a single father and veteran who was struggling to find resources once he completed his service. While incarcerated, a Featherfist representative reached out to him about their youth program. Now, he’s focused on finding employment and making a better life for himself and his twin sons.

“I was in the Cook Country Penitentiary and one day they told me I had a call from someone, and it was Featherfist. Which is crazy, because you never really have people reach out to help you when you’re on the inside. So then I was connected with them and they showed me all of these resources that I never even knew I had before. And then when I came to [CFB] I was just amazed that I got to choose from all that stuff.”

“This [dining table] is big enough for my kids to do their homework together. I didn’t know I’d get furniture this nice.”

“I’m [at CFB] almost every other week. It’s good to know [our clients are] getting good quality stuff, all in one visit, dropped off within two days. They get to recognize that they can and deserve to have a furnished home when they’re not living in a Honda minivan.”

ABOUT FEATHERFIST:

For 35 years, Featherfist has brought power and purpose to the homeless community in Chicago. They go above and beyond to eliminate the cycle of homelessness by addressing the specific demands of each person or family with empathy and respect. They believe everyone should have a home, not “housing,” and the opportunity to re-enter the mainstream as a member of our society.

“The whole experience was really, really good. My kids got to see the place and play with the toys I picked out for them, they loved them. I’m just excited to live a happy life.”
